Charleston Church Tours opened on Memorial Day 2006 and is the only tour to share
Charleston's History through the lens of her churches. All of our information has been verified
by the individual congregations and our research is ongoing. This is a true Mom and Pop
organization where everything from advertising to research is handled by Preston and Bonnie Cooley.
C. Preston Cooley is a native South Carolinian whose family has lived in the state for well over
200 years. Therefore, it is no surprise that history is his lifelong passion. He is especially
interested in Southern history from the War of the Revolution to the War Between the States and
Reconstruction. He was graduated from the College of Charleston with a degree in, you guessed
it, History, and has worked in tourism for almost a decade.
Bonnie Cooley is a native Texan, whose family has lived there since it was the Lone Star Republic.
She was graduated from Stephens College in Missouri with a degree in Equestrian Science and moved
to South Carolina in 1998 after having lived a little bit of everywhere. Shortly after arriving
in Charleston, this natural born story teller discovered an interest in history and acquired
her tour guide license (and a Southern Historian). She has been escorting people through the past
ever since.
